Details of Disappearance:
In January 1994, a woman named Lamanna, who lived in New York and was studying to be a nuclear medicine technologist, had a mental breakdown. She was found confused and disoriented in Queens, New York, and briefly hospitalized. Later that day, she was released and went to her sister’s house in Ocean City, New Jersey. That evening, she ran away from her sister’s house in her navy blue bathrobe, in freezing weather.

She was last seen in a bar in nearby Somers Point, New Jersey. Her bathrobe was found a short time later, two blocks away. A police dog followed her scent to a spot in Ocean City, but nothing else was found. It’s thought she may have hitchhiked.

There were several reported sightings of someone who looked like her in New Jersey and New York the following year, and later in Virginia and North Carolina. One woman, believed to be Lamanna, was found in Florida in 2016, but it turned out she wasn’t.

Lamanna had a good education (she graduated from the University of Scranton and volunteered with the Peace Corps), and a long-term relationship that had recently ended. Her sister said she suffered from anorexia and anxiety and that the breakup triggered her mental health crisis. While some say she disappeared from New York, most sources say she vanished from Ocean City, New Jersey.
