- Details of Disappearance:
- On February 24, 1984, two friends, Rolnick and Alan Hirsch, went out on their small orange and white boat in Coconut Grove, Florida. After a quick dinner, they left, but things went wrong. People at the restaurant noticed they seemed to be on drugs and their boat had engine trouble and no working lights. Soon, they ran out of gas.
They paddled to a gas station, and Rolnick called his ex-girlfriend. He said he had one more thing to do and would be home by dark. He never arrived. Neither did Hirsch.
Rolnick’s car was found later near a restaurant. A huge search across a massive area—three states, parts of the Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean—found nothing. They are believed to have been lost at sea.
Before disappearing, Rolnick had been using drugs again after a period of sobriety and was dealing with the recent murder of his stepfather. Hirsch also used drugs regularly. Despite being experienced boaters and swimmers, neither man was ever seen again.
