- In August 1982, Ruth, who lived with a guardian in Modesto, California, met two men in their thirties. That evening, around 8:45 pm, she left her home on Clayton Avenue to meet them at Sam’s Food City (on Carver and Teresa Roads – a short walk away). She said she was going to buy a soda. This was the last time anyone saw her.
