Details of Disappearance:
On September 23, 2007, Kairy disappeared along with three others – Jake Branam, his wife Kelly, and his half-brother Scott Gamble – while on a fishing trip. They were heading to the Bahamas with two passengers, Kirby Archer and Guillermo Zarabozo, on Jake’s boat, the “Joe Cool.” Archer and Zarabozo paid for the trip.

The boat was found adrift and empty the next day, far off course. Archer and Zarabozo were found in a life raft a few days later. They gave conflicting stories about what happened.

Archer had a warrant for his arrest for stealing money, and Zarabozo was charged with lying to investigators. Both were eventually charged with the murders of Kairy, Jake, Kelly, and Scott.

Zarabozo initially claimed they were hijacked, but evidence on the boat (bullet casings and other items in their life raft) didn’t match his story. He later blamed Archer. Archer eventually confessed to the murders (pleading guilty in exchange for life in prison without parole), admitting he and Zarabozo each killed two people.

Zarabozo was also convicted of the murders after a long trial and received multiple life sentences. He maintains his innocence, claiming Archer threatened him. The bodies of the four victims have never been found. The case is considered a murder.
