Details of Disappearance:
Benitez, who lived in Potomac, Maryland, told his family on October 6, 2001, that he was going to visit a friend in New York. He never arrived and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. This was unusual for him; he wouldn’t normally disappear without telling anyone.

He was driving his silver 1999 Mercedes (license plate JWN-591) when he vanished. His family reported him missing on February 5, 2002.

Months later, on June 4, 2002, his burned-out Mercedes was found abandoned near Route 108 and Tucker Lane, on the border between two Maryland counties. Someone had set a small fire to the car. Even though there was no clear sign of a crime, and the dogs couldn’t track anything, police still consider his disappearance suspicious because they haven’t found any evidence to explain what happened to him.
