Details of Disappearance:
Selinda disappeared on March 21, 1979, from her home on Forest Street in Burlington. She was 15, a student at Burlington High School, and the youngest of six in a Catholic family. Before she vanished, she’d started hanging out with a rough crowd and smoking marijuana, and she and her family received threatening phone calls. After getting an unlisted phone number, the threats stopped.

Selinda left home to see a friend and never came back. An anonymous tip claimed she was murdered and her body was in the Winooski River, but police never searched the river. Years later, a friend of Selinda’s sister said she found blonde hair there while fishing.

While police think Selinda may have run away, there were many reported sightings of her after her disappearance—even a claim she was at her father’s funeral in 1981. None of these sightings have been confirmed. Her parents have since passed away, but her siblings still hope to find her, and the case remains a mystery.
