Details of Disappearance:
On October 12, 1994, a woman named Schell went for a long, difficult hike in Saguaro National Monument East near Tucson, Arizona. She was planning a 32-mile hike, which she’d attempted and failed before. She left her car at the trailhead, locking up her valuables. She took some supplies with her – snacks, water, extra clothes, and personal items.

She never returned.

Searchers found a campfire about six miles into the hike, along with footprints and some things that might have belonged to her, but they never found Schell. Because of the difficult terrain and the lack of any other clues, it’s believed she got lost or injured on the hike and died in the desert.

Schell was an experienced hiker, though she had gotten lost once before. At the time, she lived with her parents in Tucson after a divorce a few years earlier, and she worked at a Jason’s Deli restaurant.
