Details of Disappearance:
On December 11, 1984, in Austin, Texas, Carolyn McCully disappeared. She was last seen around 1:40 PM, driving east on Howard Lane. She’d been Christmas shopping and had just dropped her husband off at work after lunch.

Her car, a beat-up off-white 1965 Volkswagen Beetle (orange hood, no front bumper), was later found abandoned and unlocked at an apartment complex several miles away. Her purse, with about $170, and the car keys were gone. The car itself seemed fine; her mechanic husband had recently worked on it, and police could easily start and drive it. There was no sign of a struggle or anything obviously wrong. A few fingerprints were found, but they didn’t lead to anyone.

Some people claimed to have seen her car near a shopping mall earlier that day, but this wasn’t confirmed. One witness even said they saw her getting out of the car with a man, but again, this is unverified.

McCully’s husband reported her missing the next day after waiting for her and contacting friends and family. He passed a lie detector test. They had a good marriage and were planning to build a new house. McCully worked for the IRS and wanted to become a doctor.

Police believe McCully was abducted, but her case remains a mystery.
