On May 17, 2022, Sofia, her mom Irma, and her uncle Nolvin were trying to cross the Rio Grande river near Rio Bravo, Texas. They were from Guatemala and hoped to reach the U.S. to be with Sofia’s dad, who was already living in Wisconsin. That’s the last time anyone saw Sofia.
