Details of Disappearance:
Teresa Schilt vanished from her Denver home on February 24, 2006. Her employer reported her missing when she didn’t go to work—something she never did. While initially it was thought she might have gone to Cleveland, Chicago, or Dallas, this was unusual because she left behind her 15-year-old daughter and two adult children.

Her husband, Frank, also disappeared on March 14th. He said he was going to a job interview in Arkansas but never returned. Police suspected Frank was involved in Teresa’s disappearance because he gave conflicting stories.

Frank was found in Arkansas at the end of March, about to hang himself. He confessed to killing Teresa during an argument about their large debts ($230,000). He said he pushed her, and she hit her head. He then put her body in a dumpster. He also tried to kill himself with carbon monoxide at home, endangering his daughter, leading to an attempted murder charge.

In 2007, Frank pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. In exchange, the first-degree murder charge and the attempted murder charge against his daughter were dropped. He received a 44-year prison sentence.

Teresa’s body has never been found, though police believe it’s in a Denver landfill. The case is considered a suspected murder because Teresa was a devoted mother who wouldn’t have abandoned her children.
