- Baxter disappeared from Huntington Beach, California, sometime in August 1977. Her daughters went to the beach that day; when they came home, their father said Baxter had run away. She was never seen again.
Her daughter, Marie, remembers a troubled marriage with lots of fighting and a violent father. Baxter had left once before, but returned. Before disappearing, Baxter was a good mom. Afterward, Marie found her mom’s purse and ID hidden in the attic.
Marie suspected her father and eventually ran away herself. The father never reported Baxter missing; Marie did, years later, in 1988. Police couldn’t find Baxter after 1977, even though they had her fingerprints and social security number. Marie believes her father was responsible for her mother’s disappearance, but he’s dead now, and no one was ever charged. The case is unsolved, and it’s considered suspicious. Note that some records incorrectly list her disappearance date as June 1, 1977.
