Details of Disappearance:
Hale Boggs, a powerful Democrat and House Majority Leader in 1972, mysteriously vanished. He had a successful career, starting young (he was the youngest Congressman ever when elected in 1941) and holding his seat for many years. He even served in the Navy during World War II.

In 1972, Boggs and another Congressman, Nicholas Begich, were flying on a fundraising trip in Alaska when their small plane disappeared in bad weather near the Chugach Mountains. The pilot and Begich’s assistant were also on board. Despite a huge search, nothing was ever found.

While it’s likely they crashed, the disappearance fueled many conspiracy theories because of Boggs and Begich’s important political positions. Rumors of assassination surfaced, but there’s no proof, and the case remains a mystery to this day.
