Details of Disappearance:

On March 16, 1990, Toni, a high school senior who loved swimming, dancing, and track, was driving her boyfriend’s car from Oakland to San Francisco. The car was having trouble, stalling repeatedly. It stalled again on the Bay Bridge, and was hit by another car.

Police arrived quickly, but Toni was gone. They thought she might have been thrown into the bay, but the Coast Guard searched and found nothing – not Toni, her clothes, or any trace of her in the car.

A week later, Toni’s mom got a mysterious phone call from a crying girl who sounded like Toni, but the call was untraceable.

While police think Toni likely drowned, her case is still officially unsolved. Witnesses saw a Black man near the car after the accident, but nobody saw Toni go over the bridge. Her bracelet and keys were found in the car. The driver who hit her was charged with vehicular manslaughter but wasn’t convicted because they couldn’t prove Toni was dead.

Because there are so many unanswered questions, her disappearance is considered a possible abduction by someone she didn’t know.
