Details of Disappearance:
Vickie disappeared from Chipley, Florida on March 15, 1987. After talking to her husband, Douglas, on the phone, she vanished. Douglas reported her missing the next day. He said she left a note saying she was going to work at McDonald’s, but her coworkers said she wasn’t scheduled. She took a suitcase, clothes, and makeup—unusual since she rarely wore makeup.

Her car was found abandoned and locked near the McDonald’s, with the keys missing. Only Vickie and Douglas’s fingerprints were found.

Three years earlier, Douglas was charged with murdering a coworker and her child. He failed several lie detector tests, confessed, but the confession was thrown out as being forced. He was acquitted.

Police suspected Douglas in Vickie’s disappearance from the start. They thought her disappearance was staged: her car was parked somewhere she never parked, and the seat was adjusted for someone taller. Her family also found the makeup unusual.

Douglas only spoke to police twice about Vickie – when he reported her missing and once in 1993. He claims she ran off to the West Coast. He has since remarried and lives in Arkansas.

Vickie left behind a young daughter. Her family believes she was murdered. The police also suspect foul play.
