- Details of Disappearance:
- Cotton disappeared on the morning of July 15, 2006, in Goleta, California. She left home to go to the Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market by bus. People aren’t sure exactly where she was last seen, but it might have been near Nectarine and Hollister streets in Goleta, where she bought a newspaper at a 7-Eleven. She’s never been seen or heard from since.
Although she’d gone missing before, she always came back within a day. This time, she had very little money with her, and her family believes she didn’t leave willingly.
Cotton was highly intelligent, with degrees in physics and mechanical engineering. She worked in a lab specializing in infrared science, but a case of meningitis in 1986 prevented her from returning to that work. She didn’t drive, preferring to walk or take the bus, and often visited community centers, markets, libraries, and colleges in the Goleta and Santa Barbara area.
Her disappearance remains a mystery.
