Years later, in 2013, Gerald and his wife, Alice, were arrested. Gerald confessed to killing Virginia and his adopted sons. He said he shot them with a rifle and disposed of their bodies in Fremont Lake. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Alice was also charged with murder – the murder of her previous husband, Ronald Holtz, who disappeared in 1974. His body was found in 2013, and Alice was convicted of his murder and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
