- Hipp disappeared in July 1991. He was last seen in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with $5,000. He then went to New York City, made a phone call to his grandmother, and disappeared.
Hipp had a history of alcoholism and mental illness (bipolar disorder), which may have affected his memory. He wasn’t carrying ID or credit cards when he vanished. His family hired investigators, but he hasn’t used his Social Security number since.
Before disappearing, he lived in subsidized housing in Huntersville, NC, and then apparently broke into a liquor store and called the police to get arrested.
There’s an unconfirmed sighting of him in Chapel Hill, NC in 1996. He was a smart, talented sculptor who won awards. He grew up in Davidson, NC, and his family owns a construction company in Charlotte.
He’s been missing since 1991, and his father and grandparents have since passed away. His family fears something bad happened to him.
