Details of Disappearance:
On February 6, 2007, around 1:30 AM, James Staggs left his home in Dover, Florida to investigate a noise outside. He told his wife he thought someone was there and took a shovel with him. He never came back.

His slippers, cigarettes, and glasses were found in his yard, suggesting he didn’t leave on purpose. Although his family didn’t report him missing right away because he sometimes stayed with friends, this was unlike him. He’d never been gone this long.

Before he disappeared, Mr. Staggs had been hurt in a tree-trimming accident and received a $16,000 settlement. The money was with his lawyer at the time. He planned to use it to fix up his house.

Mr. Staggs, a lifelong resident of Dover with two children, was very attached to his home and community. His family believes he wouldn’t have just left. The case remains a mystery.
