- In July 2009, Garcia vanished after leaving work in Deerfield Beach, Florida. When she didn’t go to work a few days later, her coworkers went to her apartment. Her boyfriend, Jason Allen, said she wasn’t there.
This was suspicious because Garcia left everything behind – her wallet, purse, keys, and even a recent $20,000 insurance payout untouched in the bank. Allen, however, used her credit cards after she disappeared.
Police found Garcia’s blood in the apartment, and it looked like someone had tried to clean it up. Allen admitted to using Garcia’s ATM card to withdraw $1,400. He and Garcia had a difficult relationship, often arguing about custody of their child.
Allen was arrested and charged with murder. He was eventually convicted of second-degree murder, likely because he killed Garcia over a custody dispute. The evidence strongly suggested foul play was involved in her disappearance.
