Details of Disappearance:
On December 7, 2016, Zachary Blom and his family were flying from Port Alsworth, Alaska, to Anchorage to watch him and his sister, Kaitlyn, compete in a volleyball tournament. They took a small plane piloted by Kyle Longerbeam instead of a commercial flight. The plane disappeared and never reached Anchorage.

Authorities think the plane crashed in Lake Clark. Debris, including parts of the plane and some belongings, was found floating in the lake, but the bodies of Zachary, his father Scott, sister Kaitlyn, and the pilot were never recovered.

The pilot wasn’t fully qualified to fly in bad weather. While the weather was good at takeoff, thick fog formed along the flight path, and this likely caused the crash. However, investigators couldn’t determine the exact cause because they couldn’t find the rest of the plane.

Zachary, his family, and the pilot are presumed dead, but officially remain missing because their bodies haven’t been found. Because the lake is very deep, recovering them is unlikely.
